Dragon Quest: Abel Yuusha follows a young hero named Abel, and a young heroine called Tialah who live in Aliahan Village. On Tialah's 16th birthday, her mother called her into the house because the village elder, Master Yogi had paid her a visit. As a birthday present, he presented her with a red jewel necklace and sash.

To show off her present and latest invention, Tialah raced out, with her slimes Chi Chi and Ka kA, to see Abel who is out fishing at the lake. After getting thorough beating by the giant fish he was trying to catch, Tialah asks Abel to try out her new invention (a bird-like hang glider). It worked… sort of. Abel glided for a while until the wings melted and dove head first into the lake. Tialah jumped into the lake to see if Able was unharmed and while underwater they come across a sunken stone tablet. They read about the Legendary Great Dragon and how it can be released with the Red Stone and sealed again with the Blue Stone. Whoever drank the blood of the Dragon would be awarded eternal life. The Dragon can only be cut with a special sword and the blood can only be caught in a special cup.

They head to shore to witness the arrival of the flying fortress of Gaim. Out of the rotten, organic ship, Moor, a toad like magician who rode in a pink energy ball flew down to great the pair. After a failed attempt to fight him, Tialah and Abel are pulled into Gaim and wind up face to face with Baramos. With sheer will, Baramos levitates Abel and throws him against the walls. Baramos then ejects Abel from the fortress. Before he falls down into the lake, Tialah tells Chi Chi to look after him. Injured and defeated, Abel floats on the lake's surface as one of the feathers from Tialah's hang glider landed on his face. Abel swears to find her at any cost.

Realizing that Tialah knows nothing about the Red Stone around her neck, Baramos sent Moor to attack Aliahan Village and force some information out of its residents. MokoMoko and the village priest nurse Abel back to health. The priest tells Abel that Tialah is carrying the Red Stone and only he can get her back. So the priest opens an old chest and gives him the Blue Stone, which is attached to a headband. During the village attack, Moor finds Tialah's parents and Master Yogi. He puts them into a trance and learned details of the Dragon from Master Yogi. During Moor's escape, he leaves behind a Giant Anteater to destroy the rest of the village. A recovered Master Yogi manages to call upon the power of the Dragon to give Abel the opportunity to take it out. Sadly the ordeal was too much for Master Yogi's frail body and passed away soon after the monster's defeat.

Abel and MokoMoko left for Aliahan Castle to receive more information from the King. Baramos anticipates their arrival and sends a horde of monsters to put a stop to their progress. The King and Queen rush Abel and MokoMoko to the basement where they take a travel gate to their first location with a clue to the Dragon's whereabouts.

The travel gate plunks them down in a hot spring where they meet the drunken wizard, Yanak. After uncovering the first clue, they receive a map of the location of the Dragon's clues and artifacts. Yanak, whose preferred method of transportation is to sit in a magic floating basket, also joins them. On the road to Aliahan Castle, Abel and MokoMoko were saved from a mugger by a mysterious female bounty hunter named Daisy. After the pair jumped through the travel gate, she arrived just in time to take care of Baramos' bunny and frog army. After Yanak joined the party, she started following the trio as a means to earn money by defeating Baramos' jewel monsters. Eventually she becomes a permanent member and helps to train Abel.

The most often asked question by our readers regarding Abel Yuusha is, "What happens after episode 13?" Well, here 'ya go. Please keep in mind that this isn't the entire story, just a brief synopsis.

Baramos was heading towards the Red Temple. Once the party arrived he was long gone and the temple was left in shambles. It wasn't a complete loss because MokoMoko accidentally found an entrance to a secret chamber. Inside Abel had a vision of Dragon's first appearance, the destruction it causes, and its sealing by the Red and Blue Stones. Once the vision was over, the party awarded with the Sailor's Thigh Bone.

Gaim was forced to return to Estark for a recharge. While there Baramos promoted a new general Jikido and we're introduced to Baramos' master, Zoma. After a fight with a Metal Slime, MokoMoko's clubs shattered causing him to finally purchase some new weapons. Following his lead, the whole party socks up on new supplies after crossing the bridge to the other countries and going on a few side quests.

While searching for another artifact, Tialah, using a new set of wings, escaped with Dodonga in tow. They eventually wind up in a shrine under the Lake of Sincerity where Abel's group shortly arrives. Tialah has the power to resurrect the Dragon transferred to her and realizes that Able has boarded Gaim to face off against Baramos. This battle results in Abel being beaten into a coma by Baramos and Jikido. Unable to be cured by conventional methods, Yanak takes him to his master, Zanak (seen in episode 11), to be revived. While Able is being recovering, Tialah takes his place in the party.

When Able is healed, Yanak decides to stay with Zanak to train and improve his magical skills. Able fought a man under the control of Baramos and after defeating him; Able learns that he is his father. The reunion is short lived because Jikido soon kills him. The group then winds up back in Aliahan. The town priest gives Tialah the Gaia Knife and the King gives Abel and Tialah world maps that allow the two stones to track one another. Tialah along with MokoMoko and Dodongo leave to find the Holy Grail while Able and Daisy leave to find the Holy Sword.

While Abel, Daisy and Daisy's brother Toby searched for the orbs and Liamland, they came across Hagon and Shido Yanak returned to the group to help put a stop to Hargon. Able is then lead to the shrine of Ramia where he placed the orbs that caused the egg to hatch and Ramia was born. He placed the orbs, the egg hatched and Ramia was born. Meanwhile, Tialah found the Holy Grail and General Ludolph returned, strengthened by Baramos. Abel's group found the Holy Sword and a defeated. Baramos returned to Zoma who granted him more strength, causing him to change his form and became twice as powerful. In one of the final battles, Toby, Zanak, and Dodonga are killed.

Tialah resurrected the Great Dragon at Aliahan, but it was only a baby. Baramos stole the Holy Sword and Cup and cut the throat of the Dragon. Before he could drink the blood, MokoMoko knocked the cup out of his hand prompting Baramos to kill him. The Dragon grew to full size and attacked Baramos, killed Moor and destroyed Gaim. The Dragon and the Red and Blue stones united to form Roto's armor, sword, and shield on Able. After a huge fight, Able finally defeated Baramos.
