U.S./Japan Version Differences
Naturally, all the text was in Japanese :p
Many of the graphics for the people in the original Dragon Quest are much poorer in quality than those of the U.S. version. When a person moves, the graphics do not change to show profiles or back shots. All people are always facing out at the player. This is one of the few rare instances where we got a better product than the original.
There is no shore line in the original Japanese version.
Some names are different. Erdrick is Roto in Japan. The Dragonlord is called King Dragon. Princess Gwaelin's name is Princess Stacy.
There are also some occasional swear words in the original Japanese version.
