Some fans have braved the task of making patches
for the titles that never made it to the US. These patches translate
the entire game, or some parts, into English. These are all the current
projects and you can find out more by visiting their sites. If there's
a new translation or if some info needs to be updated, feel free to
let us know!

Dragon
Quest V by Kojiro Translations
DQ V's compression has finally been hacked and the group has created
a recompressor that's better than the original. The system and battle
text has been found, but the best part is, everything has been dumped
and is ready for 'a translatin'. Here are two images of its progress;
first the old font and then the new one.

Quest IV by Kojiro Translations
Here's a little bit of insight on why hiring new programmers wouldn't
work for DW IV back in '02. The text compression has been hacked but
the script is scattered through the file in bits 'n pieces. Once it's
dumped a new method to insert it needs to be created. It should be
dumpes soon and there are translators on hold, but they're still looking
for more.

Quest I+II by RPGOne
This patch is 100% complete and has two versions for download. One
has the original Dragon Quest names for locations, items, etc. and
the other patch has the Dragon Warrior names. The second version
contains new text and big fixes.

This project is currently at 47% and will eventually translate into
other languages.

Quest V by Byuu and SpSpiff
This translation is at version .91. The only thing that hasn't been
translated in this patch are the status ailments in battle. Other
than that, it's free of bugs and 100% playable. The translation
in this patch is very close to the original Japanese dialogue which
is a treat for someone who's never played a Dragon Quest game before.

The popular dungeon crawling game is currently available at version

The patch available translates some menu names and a few items.
