Revision History: version 1.7--finally added item and equipment lists!! -added walkthroughs for each dungeon -added this section! -added a table of contents -general editing version 1.5--improved the Walkthrough a LOT version 1.2--that was a LONG time ago, but I think it was general editing version 1.0--initial release II. Instructions: Most of the game is self-explanatory. It plays pretty much like any other RPG. The A button brings up the menu, and accepts commands in windows. The B button cancels commands in windows. Press start to begin the game. Select is not used. HP is Hit Points, when your hit points reach 0, you die. If one person in your party dies, you must revive them with a spell, item, or a visit to the house of healing; sleeping at the INN will NOT revive dead party members! If your entire party dies, you will lose half your gold, and the person who last saved your game will revive only the Prince of Midenhall. MP is Magic Points, each spell costs a certain amount of MP. **The Prince of Midenhall cannot use spells. If someone is poisoned, cursed (by equipping cursed things), or dead, you can remedy this at the house of healing, for a price. You can only save your game with a king (or, if there is no king, someone else may save your game). BE SURE TO HOLD RESET WHILE TURNING THE POWER OFF, OTHERWISE YOU MIGHT LOSE YOUR SAVE GAME!! Doors can be opened by using the right key, or with the OPEN spell. The silver key opens silver doors only, the golden key opens gold doors only, the jailer's key opens jail doors only, and the OPEN spell opens any door (thus, you may sell or discard your keys after learning OPEN). All weapons and armor MUST be equipped before they are effective! III. Story: At the end of Dragon Warrior 1, Princess Gwaelin and the hero (the one who slew the Dragonlord and is a descendant of Erdrick the Great) journey far to find a new kingdom to rule. They create the kingdom of Midenhall, to the east of the continent of Alefgard. Gwaelin bears three children. The older prince is given Midenhall, the younger prince is given Cannock, and the princess is given Moonbrooke. The descendants of these three will be your party. Now, watch the opening of the game as Moonbrooke is attacked by minions of the evil wizard, Hargon... IV: Lists Items: Medical Herb--restores about 30 HP; bought- 15 Gold. Dragon's Potion--This rare item allows you to save your game anywhere! You can use it repeatedly; won from fighting Metal Babbles. Gremlin's Tail--This item is cursed, I'm not sure what its exact effect is, but suffice it to say this is a bad item, don't try to use it, just sell it ASAP; won from Hawkmen(?) or Ozwargs. After fighting over 100 Magic Vapirii, all I ever won from them was Gold... I've even heard that Bazuzu can drop a Mysterious Hat, but I've never gotten it from him either. The information on these items has been provided by E-mails from various people. If you can better help me locate these items, please let me know. V. Equipment: Here is the best equipment that I recommend for each character. Note: Make sure you equip everyone with a Dragon's Bane when you get to Tantegel (use the USE command, not EQUIP command). Prince of Midenhall: He can equip all weapons and armor. The best equipment for him is: Thunder Sword, Erdrick's Armor, Erdrick's Shield, and Erdrick's Helmet. The Thunder Sword casts INFERNOS when used in battle, unfortunately, that spell is not particularly useful by the time you find the sword... It is a very strong sword, however, even stronger than Erdrick's Sword. The Thunder Sword and Erdrick's armor are found in the cave to Rhone, the armor protects the hero from barriers and swamps!! Erdrick's Shield is found in Cannock castle, and Erdrick's Helmet is found in the Shrine of the Holy, in the Southeastern part of Alefgard. *Note--The Sword of Destruction is a stronger sword that can be won from Giants, but it is cursed, and will cause paralysis occasionally during battle if equipped. Sell it for big bucks instead! Prince of Cannock: He can equip most weapons and armor. The best equipment for him is: Falcon Sword, Magic Armor, and Shield of Strength. The Falcon sword only adds +5 to his attack power, but it allows him to attack TWICE per turn. This gives him a LOT more total attack power than if he had the Iron Spear equipped. It can be purchased in the town of Tuhn near the moon tower, as can the Shield of Strength, and Magic Armor. When you use the Shield of Strength in battle, It has the same effect as the HEALMORE spell, which is very useful! *Note--You may notice that the Mink Coat is a bit stronger than the Magic Armor, however, the Magic Armor protects him somewhat from fire-based attacks (like fire-breath and the FIREBANE spell). Thus, the Magic Armor is a better choice, as the Mink Coat provides no protection from fire. **The prince can also use the Water Flying cloth, see the note below for details on how to get TWO cloths! Princess of Moonbrooke: She can equip few weapons and armor. The best equipment for her is: Staff of Thunder and Water Flying Cloth. The Staff of Thunder casts INFERNOS in battle, and can be obtained by defeating the mad clown in Midenhall. The Water Flying Cloth can be made by Don Mahone in Tuhn, if you give him the Magic Loom and Dew's Yarn. Even though she can't equip it, give her a Shield of Strength. She CAN use it in battle to produce the HEALMORE spell on herself. **Trick: There is supposed to be only one Water Flying Cloth in the game. However, using a special trick, you can get TWO of them! First, gather the Dew's Yarn and Magic Loom and give them to Don Mahone in Tuhn. (See the walkthrough for details about where to find them.) Now, go save your game with a king or other save-person. Hit reset on your console and load your game. Now, BEFORE you go back to Tuhn, go back and get the Yarn and Loom in the same places as before. NOW go back to Tuhn and receive the first Cloth from Don Mahone. Talk to him again, and you'll give him the SECOND Yarn and Loom. Give the first Cloth to the princess, and go save and reset again. Now go back to Tuhn and get the SECOND Cloth! Give it to the prince of Cannock for extra protection! [IMPORTANT NOTE--if you are using a computer emulator such as NESticle to play this game (make sure you own the cartridge if you are!), then remember the save STATES (F5 and F7 in NESticle) are not the same as saving the game to the standard save file. When you want to get the Cloth, hitting F5, quitting the emulator, then starting it up again and hitting F7 will NOT work! The game thinks you never stopped playing! You MUST go back to somewhere like Beran and talk to the man and save your game on the Imperial Scrolls of Honor. After doing this, use the RESET function on the emulator (Alt-R on NESticle) or quit the emulator program and re-start it. Now, when the game restarts, press the start button and "Continue a Quest" and load your save game the normal way. NOW Don Mahone will be finished with your Water Flying Cloth. Don't touch the save state buttons while doing this operation, or it may not work correctly.] VI. Experience Levels: Here is an exp. chart, it gives suggested levels for traveling to each place in the game. All levels given are for the Prince of Midenhall, as your companions' levels will always be lower than his. The maximum levels for each character are: Prince of Midenhall--50, Prince of Cannock--45, and Princess of Moonbrooke--35. Everyone will reach these levels after accumulating a total of 1,000,000 (one million) exp. each. Location Recommended Level Midenhall 1 Leftwyne 4 Cannock 5 Cave of Bravery 6 Cave West of Cannock 9 Hamlin 10 Tower of Wind 14 Lianport 15 Tantegel 15 Zahan 16 Wellgarth 16 Charlock 17 Tower South of Alefgard 19 Beran 19 Tuhn 20 Osterfair 20 Tower of the Moon 21 Sea Cave 23 Rhone Cave 24 Hargon's Castle 30 VII. Walkthrough: *Note, the walkthroughs for the caves and towers will lead you down the shortest path to the goal, ignoring petty treasure, but leading you to important ones. Feel free to explore each dungeon on your own to find all the treasure. The list of treasures found is not exact, I'm listing it mainly from memory. Gathering Companions: You begin with the Prince of Midenhall. Be sure to equip the Copper Sword when you receive it. You must locate the Prince of Cannock first. Go West from Midenhall to Leftwynne to gather information and supplies. Buy a leather shield in the shop and equip it. Now go North to Cannock castle and talk to the king and the prince's sister, Halla. They will tell you that the prince has gone to the Spring of Bravery, in the East. Go there (it is on the Northeast corner of the continent) and enter the cave. --The Spring of Bravery: Treasures found here: Medical Herb. Upon entering this cave, go North past the first intersection, then walk East down a long hallway. You will soon come to a small pool of water at a crossroads. Head directly North from here and follow the path until you see the large Spring. Talk to the man at the spring and tell him you don't want a drink. He will tell you that the prince has gone to Midenhall castle. Make sure you talk to the man again, and take a drink from the spring before you leave to restore your HP. Go South to Midenhall after exiting the cave. The king will tell you that you just missed the prince, and that he has gone off to Midenhall to look for you. I believe this is an error in the game, because the prince is not in Midenhall, he is in Leftwynne. After speaking to the king of Midenhall, head West to Leftwynne and you'll find him at the inn. Talk to him and he will join your party! (Note--you can't just go to Leftwynne to find the prince; you MUST visit the spring of bravery first.) Buy whatever equipment you can afford. Go west from Cannock to a cave surrounded by some water. --The Cave of the Lake: Treasures found here: Medical Herb, Wing of the Wyvern, Antidote Herb, Silver Key. Make SURE you have the Prince of Cannock before entering here! The enemies are too tough for one person to handle. Upon entering, head West down a long corridor, ignoring the rooms to the North and South. When you reach then end of the hall, Head South and take the first passageway leading West. At the end of this passageway, you will come to some steps leading down to floor B2. On this floor, take the passageway leading South and ignore the side passages. When you can't go South anymore, take the path to the East. This path leads straight to a chest with the Silver Key. Make sure the Prince of Cannock knows STOPSPELL before going south to Hamlin. Equip both characters with a Chain Sickle, Chain Mail, and Leather Shield in Leftwynne. Buy a Magic Knife if you have enough money, the princess can use it when she joins later. To get to Hamlin, enter the shrine Southwest of Cannock, and head down when you enter the cave, don't go West, it just leads to a dead end with no treasure chests. Take the Eastern path, which leads to the other side of the cave. Once outside, head South along the shore to reach Hamlin. In Hamlin, notice the dog that follows you. Go West to Moonbrooke castle (or what's left of it...) and talk to everyone there (including the flames). You'll find a fallen soldier in the basement of the castle who will give you some information. To get there, walk outside the castle walls in the Northwest corner and walk South along the wall and re-enter the castle in the Southeast corner, and you can reach the stairs leading to the basement. There is nothing else down here other than the soldier, though. You will find out that the Mirror of Ra is in the swamp where the four bridges can be seen. This swamp is found East and slightly South of the castle. Search in the swamp to find the mirror, take it back to Hamlin and use it in front of the dog and behold! the dog is really the princess of Moonbrooke! Give her a Magic Knife if you've got one. Getting a ship: Now, get up levels around Hamlin, and then inside Moonbrooke Castle until the princess learns REPEL, and the Prince of Cannock learns RETURN and OUTSIDE. Go to the tower of wind southeast of Hamlin (you must head northeast of Hamlin first through the forest, and then go South along the beach to get there). Climb the tower and search for cloak of the wind. --The Tower of the Wind: Treasures found here: Medical Herb, Gold, Cloak of the Wind. The cloak is on the 2nd floor, but you can't get to it directly. There are many sets of stairs inside, you have to make sure you take the right ones. On the first floor, take the stairs in the Northeast corner of the tower. These steps will lead you to a soldier who tells you not to fall over the side of the tower. At the end of this hallway are the stairs leading to the 3rd floor. Here, you'll be able to see the chest with the cloak just to the South of you, but you can't get to it yet. Head up to the 3rd floor, and head South. Take the only stairs leading up to go to the 4th floor. Now head East and take the FIRST set of stairs you see to the 5th floor. Follow the path here until you come to stairs going DOWN. These will lead to a series of staircases that lead to the 2nd floor, and the Cloak of the wind. If you want to get out quickly and don't know the OUTSIDE spell, Climb back up to the 5th floor and fall off the tower from there (you won't get hurt by falling). Have anyone equip the cloak (USE it as an item to equip it). Go back to Hamlin to stock up on supplies. By now the Prince of Midenhall should have a Broad Sword, Full Plate Armor, and Steel Shield. The Prince of Cannock needs the Iron Spear, Chain Mail, and Leather Shield. The Princess of Moonbrooke will have only a Magic Knife and Clothes. Now head Southwest of Moonbrooke to a shrine, pass through it and head Northwest until you find a tower. This tower, along with its twin across the river is known as the Dragon's Horn. This tower is straightforward, just climb to the very top and fall off the NORTHERN edge. With the cloak of the wind on, you will land across the channel. If you're still healthy, you may want to go ahead and get the Dew's Yarn now, an item you'll need much later. Enter the Northern tower that you just landed beside and go up to the 3rd floor. Use the SEARCH command in different places until you find the yarn. Most likely, one of your party died after climbing the Southern tower. If that's the case, forget about the Northern tower for now and head straight for Lianport to get healed. The port town lies to the Northeast from the Dragon's Horn. Make sure you revive anyone who is dead at the house of healing, and then stay at the inn. Now stock up on supplies. You'll want to buy Clothes of Hiding for the Prince of Cannock and the Princess. You can also buy a Wizard's Wand for the Princess if you want, but it's not that useful. Now talk to the woman in the Northwest corner of town and defeat the demons. The grateful woman will ask her grandfather to give you a ship. Head north in your new ship until you reach a shallow area in the sea. Search there to find the treasures. Take it back to the port town and exchange it for the echoing flute. The man who gives you the flute is behind a silver door; get in the ship again (inside the town) and sail to his house (instead of outside through the channel) to trade the treasure for the flute. This flute will echo when there is a crest nearby. Exploring the World: Next, go East of the port town to the continent of Alefgard. You'll know it's Alefgard when the famous "Alefgard music" starts playing. Go East to Tantegel castle, talk to everyone, make sure you buy Dragon's Banes for everyone, and save. Now explore the world in your ship. If you're having trouble locating various places, here is how to get to them: Osterfair: Sail East from Alefgard; Cannock will be to the North, and you will run into the long peninsula which led you from Cannock to Hamlin. Sail around this peninsula and head East until you see Midenhall. Now turn South and go to the shrine to the southeast where the man talks about keys. Head due South from here and you will find the island of Osterfair. You can enter from the left side of the island to visit Osterfair. Now head West from this large island until you hit the continent. Sail South along the shore and you'll come to a small island with a lone tree. This is the world tree. Get a Leaf of the World tree by searching here; once you use the leaf, come back to get another. Now head East and a little North to find a shrine on a small island. This is the fire shrine, it has travel doors that lead to various other places, but you'll need a golden key to get to most of them. From the fire shrine, sail South until the shrine JUST disappears off the top of the screen. Now turn East and you'll see Zahan town on a small island. Enter it and search where the dog leads you to find the Golden key. Go back to the World Tree and head West along the Southern shore of the large continent in the middle of the world. You should see the town of Wellgarth as you sail by. Wellgarth is the town with the man who talks about having bad breath. Here you will find Roge Fastfinger in the jail. To do this, buy the blank spot in the item shop to get the jail key (it costs 2,000GP). Explore the jail to find Roge Fastfinger, he will give you the watergate key. If you're having trouble, enter the empty cell and push on all the walls inside to find his hiding place. Now, go to the North tower of the Dragon's Horn if you haven't already, located southwest of Lianport. Get the Dew's Yarn on the third floor; just keep SEARCHing on the 3rd floor of the Northern tower and you'll find it. To reach Beran, go just South of Osterfair island and sail East until you hit land, then sail South to a desert area, get out and walk to Beran (you should see the town when you exit the ship). Now you've explored all you want to for now. Return to Tantegel castle and enter the castle of Charlock (the Dragonlord's old castle) to search for Erdrick's Sword. --Charlock Castle: Treasures found here: Medical Herb, Wing of the Wyvern, Lottery Ticket, Gold, Sword of Erdrick. From the entrance, follow the winding path to reach the stairs leading to floor B2. Here, follow the circular path to the stairs leading down to floor B3. Here walk all the way around the room and take the stairs leading down. (Ignore first set of stairs you come to.) On floor B4, take the stairs leading UP at the center of the room. This leads to several more staircases ultimately leading to the Sword of Erdrick. If you wish, go back down to floor B4 and take the stairs leading DOWN right next to the stairs leading to the sword. On floor B5, follow the path to the stairs going down to B6, then head West to the stairs leading down. Now you're in the Dragonlord's chamber. You won't have to worry about monsters on this floor thankfully. If you come down here, raid the treasury (careful of the damaging barrier!) and talk to the man on the throne. He is the grandson of the Dragonlord, but he wishes no harm to anyone. He will tell you to get the 5 crests and take them to Rubiss, the Wizard. Now, Get up levels near the Shrine of the Holy in Alefgard (Southeast portion) and occasionally you'll meet 8 metal slimes; the Saber Tigers here also give good EXP and gold. To earn extra Gold to buy expensive equipment, here's a little GP gaining trick: Go to Midenhall and save the game with the king. Using the 3 keys, go to the basement and fight the evil clown (make sure you have raided the royal treasury, Erdrick's Token is here). After defeating the clown, you'll receive the Staff of Thunder. Sell the staff at the item store (about 19,000 Gold!) and go save with the king, and tell him you do not wish to continue. Hit reset and restore your game. Now the clown will be alive again. Kill him, and receive another staff! Sell it and repeat until you have 65,535 Gold, then repeat again to get the staff, and keep it this time. Now you can afford those expensive weapons and armor. At this point, make sure you have gotten the Shield of Erdrick from the chest behind the gold door in Cannock, and the Helmet of Erdrick from the Shrine of the Holy in the Southeast part of Alefgard. Go to Osterfair and go to the shop. You'll notice two treasure chests behind the counter. Exit the castle court area into the hallway that loops around the court. Now walk around to the back of the shop and open the door with the golden key. Now search the chests to get the Armor of Gaia. Talk to the king and fight the Saber Tiger. After winning, the king will give you the moon crest and let you save the game with him. Now you should level-up around Osterfair. After learning STEPGUARD, go to Zahan and get the Magic Loom. Now you should go to Tuhn, which is a really REALLY hard to find town. From Beran, head Northeast by ship and you'll come to the Southwest corner of the largest continent in the world. There are two rivers here; one lies to the Northwest of the other. Take the Northwestern river and make your way through it until the river ends at a forest. Get out of the ship and walk through the forest path through the mountains. Go West, North, and East, and you should be able to see the town. Keep going around the mountains, and you'll finally be able to reach the town. Go to the watergate in the North part of town (go North next to the INN, you won't actually exit the town; this will let you access the Northern area where the watergate is) and open it with the watergate key. Now find Don Mahone and give him the yarn and loom. Cast RETURN, save the game, quit, restart, and return to Tuhn for the Water Flying Cloth. This time, you may take the Eastern river, as opening the watergate has made a more direct path to Tuhn. At this point, your characters should be equipped at least as follows: Prince of Midenhall: Sword of Erdrick (from Charlock castle) Armor of Gaia (from Osterfair) Shield of Erdrick (from Cannock) Helmet of Erdrick (from Alefgard) Prince of Cannock: Falcon Sword (from Tuhn) Water Flying Cloth (or Magic Armor if you don't cheat) Shield of Strength (from Tuhn) Princess of Moonbrooke: Staff of Thunder (from Midenhall) Water Flying Cloth (from Tuhn) Shield of Strength (in inventory to USE in battle) Everyone should have a Dragon's Bane equipped (from Tantegel). Now is a good time to enter the Tower South of Alefgard to get the star crest. Head South from Tantegel by ship and whenever some land gets in your way, head East or West to go around it as needed. If you keep going South whenever possible, you should see an island with a tower on it. --Tower South of Alefgard: Treasures found here: Gold. From the entrance, take the Western path until you get all the way to the end of the corridor. Now turn South and go all the way to the end of this hall. Now head all the way East. Go North until your path is blocked. Turn West, then go South and take the first path to the West. You will now come to the roofed building in the center of this chamber. Go North and enter the niche in the roof. Inside the building, go 1 room West and 1 room South to reach the Southwestern corner of the building. Take the stairs in this room up to the 2nd floor. Head West from the stairs on the second floor, then head South. You will see stairs heading up to the 3rd floor in this room, take them. On the 3rd floor, exit to the North from this room. Take the stairs you see here to the 4th floor. Head East and take the first path you see leading North. Then turn West to find stairs going up to the 5th floor. On this floor, head East, then South. Head up the stairs to the 6th floor (tall tower, isn't it?). Open the red door with the Golden Key. Head North and then West to yet another staircase. On the 7th floor (isn't the air getting a little thin up here??), head East until you see a monster walking South into a roofed area. Follow him, and you'll find an old man. Talk to him, and then follow him closely (if you follow TOO close, he'll be standing on top of the stairs waiting for you. Back up a few steps and he'll go down the stairs). If you accidentally take a wrong turn and get separated from him, retrace your steps back to where you originally met the old man, and then simply go down the stairs that are the farther away from you. When you reach a small room, the man will tell you to open the treasure chest there. However, it is empty... The old man will reveal that he is really a Gremlin monster and he summons 3 friends to fight you. Defeat these relatively simple enemies and then you will receive the star crest. Now sail directly South of Tuhn to the Tower of the Moon. --Tower of the Moon: Treasures found here: Bamboo Stick, Gold, Moon Fragment. From the entrance, go all the way South and up the stairs. On the 2nd floor, go up the stairs you see to the 3rd floor. Likewise, go up the stairs to the 4th floor. Head East to the stairs going up to the 5th floor. Head South from here to find stairs going down. Follow a series of staircases all the way down to the first floor. Talk to the old man and then open the chest containing the Moon Fragment. Now you should go to the Sea Cave south of Osterfair to find the Eye of Malroth. To get there, sail 20 spaces West of the mouth of Osterfair island, and then turn south. Use the Moon Fragment at the shallows to make them disappear. --Sea Cave: Treasures found here: Medical Herb, Antidote Herb, Eye of Malroth, Gold, Dragon's Bane, also--beware of poisoned chests! This is quite a confusing cave, but I'll do my best to give directions. Note that you CAN walk through the lava, but you'll suffer damage when you do. The Armor of Erdrick (which you don't have yet) and the Water Flying Cloth will protect you from the lava, but the STEPGUARD spell does not. From the entrance of the cave, head South and take the first passageway leading West that you see. At the end of the hall, turn South and take the stairs leading to B2. Go South and take the first path to the West, then turn take the 2nd corridor leading South. Go West and you'll see a corridor filled with lava to your North; take it and descend the stairs to floor B3. Open the door in this room with the Golden Key, and follow the path, ignoring the stairs you see. When you reach an intersection, keep going East and take the stairs in front of you leading to floor B4. Exit the room you're in and you'll find yourself in a very large chamber filled with lava and lots of stairs going up. Head Northwest from where you are until you see a lone staircase going DOWN. Take it to floor B5. Go South from here, then East to find a wizard standing in the way. Approach him, and then he and his friend will attack you. They're just Evil Clowns, but if you've been hurt badly in this cave, they might be a problem. Dispatch them quickly and head to the East to the chamber containing the Eye of Malroth. Grab it and then get the heck out of there, fast!! Rhone: Go back to Beran and use the travel door. Exit the shrine and go west to a swamp. In the swamp use the Eye of Malroth to open the cave to Rhone. The cave to Rhone is fairly large with many tough enemies and traps. Cave to Rhone: Treasures found here: Lottery Ticket, Gold, Armor of Erdrick, Thunder Sword. Upon entering the cave, take the first staircase you see down to the basement and get the life crest in the Southeastern corner (watch out, there are LOTS of Horks down here, they're more annoying than they are dangerous though). Go back to the entrance to the cave and CAREFULLY head East from the entrance to the stairs going up (the ones along the Eastern wall). There are many holes here; just try to stay away from the walls, that's where most of the holes are. On floor 2, head east from the stairs and go past 2 intersections. Take the 3rd intersection down, and take the stairs leading to floor 3. On floor 3, you'll first want to get the Armor of Erdrick. Take the path to the Southeast and stay on the main path; don't take any of the side pathways. When you come to the end of the main path, continue East to the stairs. The stairs lead to the 5th floor, and the Armor of Erdrick. Equip it immediately. If you NEED to cast OUTSIDE you can, but try to hold on a little longer, you've got one more important treasure to find. Go back to floor 3 to the stairs where you first came to floor 3 from floor 2. Now take the Northwestern path and when you reach the Northernmost area, take the path to the East. The stairs here lead to floor 5. After arriving at floor 5, go down 1 step and left 1 step to fall to floor 4. In this large room, head to the lower left. There is a pitfall 1 step up and 1 step right from the corner. Fall in it to find the mighty Thunder Sword. Now is a really good time to exit the cave and get healed and save. Make your way back to level 5. Now, to avoid the numerous hidden holes, follow these instructions from the stairs: down 2 steps, left 2, down 4, right 3, and down 1. You are now on floor 6 (this is the last one!). I'm going to be VERY precise here, since if you take the wrong path, you'll be lost. From the stairs, go up 2 spaces. Now head DUE East until you hit a wall. Go up a short distance to hit another wall. Now Go West until you hit a wall. Go North until you hit another wall. Go East until you hit a wall. Go down 3 spaces to hit another wall. Go East until you hit a wall. Go down 2 spaces to hit another wall. Go right 1 space and down 1 space. Go East until you hit a wall. Go up 2 spaces to hit another wall. Go East to a wall; go North to a wall. Go left 2 spaces, up 2 spaces, then left 2 spaces. Now go North until you hit a wall. Go right 1 space, then North until you hit a wall. Go East until you hit a wall, then South to another wall, then go East. Eureka! There's the exit. Take the stairs and now you're in snow-filled Rhone. In case the constant monster attacks make you lose track of where you are, here's a more brief way to get through floor 6: Follow each path until you reach an intersection, then go the direction stated. From the stairs, head right; at the first intersection, go left, then right; now you are in a small room with a block in the center. In the "middle" of the block, there is a pitfall, so just go around the block, exit this room to the lower right. Now take the upper path heading right, next head left, keep going up at the next intersection, and finally head right to the stairs. The stairs lead to Rhone!! You're not out of the woods yet! Make a break for the shrine, which is Northeast of the cave exit. This shrine contains a healer who will totally restore you, revive any dead party members for free, and even save your game! Now, go south of the shrine and fight Cyclops and Silver Batboons to raise levels until you learn Defeat and Explodet. Now fight giants and others around the shrine. (The big purple enemies, Bullwongs, will occasionally drop a Wizard's Ring!) Raise the Prince of Midenhall's level to at least 30. Now, make sure you have all the crests before proceeding to Rhone (see below for locations). Go north of Osterfair with all the crests to Rubiss' island. He (or she?) will give you Rubiss' Charm. Before going to Rhone for the final showdown, make sure you're equipped as follows: Prince of Midenhall: Thunder Sword (from Cave to Rhone) Armor of Erdrick (from Cave to Rhone) Shield of Erdrick (from Cannock) Helmet of Erdrick (from Alefgard's Shrine of the Holy) Prince of Cannock: Falcon Sword (from Tuhn) Water Flying Cloth (or Magic Armor if you don't cheat) Shield of Strength (from Tuhn) Princess of Moonbrooke: Staff of Thunder (from Midenhall) Water Flying Cloth (from Tuhn) Shield of Strength (in inventory to USE in battle) Go to the castle of Rhone by going west then south from the shrine; walk along the mountains. Enter the castle and... what?!? It's Midenhall!! or is it?? Use Rubiss' Charm to break the deception. If you think you're wise to stay at the inn or shop at the item store in the fake Midenhall, you're in for a surprise... Anything you do in the fake Midenhall will be undone after you use the charm. There are no random enemies on the ground floor of the castle. There are also no treasures in this castle (there are two chests on floor 1, but they're empty). Go behind the throne, enter the barrier (using STEPGUARD) and go all the way to the West end of the barrier strip. Use the OPEN spell or keys to open the hidden door above you. Now go East in this hallway to another door, open it and you'll see an odd looking block surrounded by a barrier. Walk to the center and use the Eye of Malroth now. You will be taken to floor 2. There are enemies on floors 2 and 3 (watch out for the enemies that look like Evil Clowns, they're nasty!), but the paths are very easy to navigate. After reaching floor 4, there will be no more random enemies, but Hargon has 3 guardians: Atlas, Bazuzu, and Zarlox. If you die after defeating any or all of these guardians, DO NOT SAVE (you may get healed at the shrine, just say NO when he asks if you want to save.) and head back to the castle. The guardian(s) you killed will stay dead! (*Note: From here on, H=Prince of Midenhall (H is for Hero), C=Prince of Cannock, and M=Princess of Moonbrooke.) To kill Atlas, have H attack, have C attack, use Shield of Strength(SOS), or cast INCREASE, and have M cast DEFENCE or use SOS. Revive anyone who died. To kill Bazuzu, have H attack, have C attack/SOS, and M cast SLEEP (it actually works sometimes!). Revive any dead. To kill Zarlox, do the exact same thing you did for Bazuzu. To kill the mighty Hargon, have H attack, C cast STOPSPELL (yes, it works on Hargon, the "master wizard"!), and M cast EXPLODET or use SOS. Boy is Hargon a wimp! Congratulations! You did it! You beat Hargon... Uh oh!!! He has a hidden master!!!!! Meet Malroth, he's really mad, and he wants his eye back! (Don't bother trying to use the Eye of Malroth on him, I've tried it and nothing happens...) To beat Malroth, have H attack, have C cast INCREASE (keep this up until it won't work anymore), HEALMORE on H, or SOS, and have M cast DEFENCE (keep it up until it won't work), SOS or cast HEALALL on H. Malroth knows the HEALALL spell, so he's tough to beat! He can also attack you at about 70 damage points (he only attacks once per turn, thank goodness!) He can also breathe fire that causes 50-70 damage on each of you!! If you beat him, you win the game! You will now be able to travel all around the world and talk to everyone, with no enemies to worry about! Most people of the world say the same few phrases, but here are a few of the more interesting people to visit: the king of Tantegel Castle, the grandson of the Dragonlord, the king of Osterfair, the spirits in Moonbrooke Castle, and the king and princess of Cannock. When you're done exploring, head to Midenhall and watch the ending! VIII. Crest Locations: Take the five crests to Rubiss' shrine (located north and slightly west of Osterfair by ship) to receive Rubiss' Charm. The echoing flute will help you locate the crests. If you still can't find them, look below. Sun Crest: Sail Northwest of Zahan, to the fire shrine and search in the upper right corner (OUTSIDE of the walls) to find the crest. Water Crest: Once you have all the keys, go back to Hamlin and fight the demons to get the crest. Star Crest: There is a tower on an island South of Alefgard; it's South and a little West of the shrine of the holy. Climb it, and follow the old man to the treasure chest. Surprise! He is a demon. Defeat him to get the crest. Moon Crest: Beat the tiger in Osterfair and the king will give you the crest. Life Crest: Search the bottom floor of the cave to Rhone to find this crest. Game Genie Codes: I do NOT encourage the use of a game genie! It can mess things up (temporarily), and can even erase your save games!
